World Renowned Basketball Team Partners with Fitness Leader to
Host Basketball Clinics for Youth this Summer

(PHOENIX, May 8, 2012) – For the first time ever, the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters are partnering with fitness club industry leader, 24 Hour Fitness, to host 120 summer skills clinics for youth across the U.S. Designed to take fans ages six to 14 behind the curtain to see the magic behind the Globetrotters’ electrifying basketball skills and tricks, participants will also learn about the importance of staying active and eating healthy. The innovative clinics will take place at approximately 40 – 24 Hour Fitness® clubs in nine states over a 10-week period this summer, including two locations in Las Vegas.

Each clinic will be conducted by current Globetrotter players. Two, three-hour clinics will be held during the following dates and times at these 24 Hour Fitness locations:

Meet the author and check out the newest mystery series to hit the literary scene

LAS VEGAS (April 17, 2012) — In celebration of the new CLUB CSI book series, CSI: The Experience at MGM Grand is hosting a book launch event on April 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the brand new Windmill Library. The event is free and open to the public.

CLUB CSI author Dave Lewman will be present at the event to rally the excitement for the new series; he’ll be on hand to sign book copies. There will be limited CSI: The Experience freebies and two CSI themed prize packs will be raffled off throughout the evening.

Based on the popular CBS television series, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, comes a brand new middle-grade series of chapter books from the mind of Dave Lewman. CLUB CSI features a crew of Las Vegas junior high schoolers inspired by their forensic science class to form a “Club CSI” to solve crimes and mysteries at school. The first two books of the series, Case of the Mystery Meat Loaf and Case of the Missing Moola, will be available in paperback and hard cover at the end of April.

Author Dave Lewman is no stranger to creating literature from popular television series. Dr. John Alexander has been a leading advocate for the development of non-lethal weapons. In addition to many military awards for valor and service, Aviation Week & Space Technology selected him as a 1993 Aerospace Laureate and in 1997 inducted him into their Hall of Fame at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington. Currently
he is a private consultant, and a Senior Fellow at the Joint Special Operations University.

During the 1980s, Alexander organized an interagency group to explore the evidence, with participants from the military, CIA, and aerospace industry examining classic cases, determining that UFOs, while real, are beyond current comprehension.

The UNLV Beverage Club and Hard Rock Hotel have joined forces to bring the second edition of Brew UNLV entitled “Rock and Brew,” an event that is half beer festival and half music experience. The festival organizers hope that one day, Brew UNLV will be just as big, if not bigger, then it’s counterpart UNLVino. This year, the festival hopes to draw over one thousand people to the Hard Rock’s breathe pool to taste over sixty different local and national beers. Proceeds from ticket sales go towards the UNLV Beverage Club. Tickets are $20 and can be bought online at brewunlv.com. The event will take place on Friday May 11th from 6:30pm – 10:00pm.

The festival will allow patrons to walk around the outdoor venue and sample multiple different beers around the pool. Local brewers such as Joseph James Brewery and Ellis Island are second time supporters and eager to help out the club. There will be a top level Lounge with music performances. Up top on the lounge will have more beers available as well as BBQ food from Hard Rock’s chefs.

This year, up and coming music band, Play for Keeps, will headline the event and play songs such as “Just like the Movies” and “We’ve only got tonight.” Local band, Summit Grove, will be performing as well. DJ Sousay, UNLV student, and DJ Michael Uriarte, UNLV Alumni, will spin music around the pool area. The National Atomic Testing Museum is proud to present Mr. Knapp as a Distinguished Lecturer who will reveal the story behind his stories on Area 51. George Knapp is an award-­‐ winning investigative reporter who has spent over 20 years examining the mystery surrounding Area 51. The lecture will take place at the Museum on the evening of April 24th beginning at 6 p.m. The National Atomic Testing Museum is located at 755 East Flamingo Road in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the 1980s George Knapp became known nationally for reporting the story of Bob Lazar, who claimed to have worked on extraterrestrial UFOs at the most secret place in America, Area 51. Corroborating some of Lazar’s claims through serious investigation, Knapp’s work earned him an “Individual Achievement by a Journalist” award from the United Press International. His study of UFOs and the threads that connect them to Area 51 is one area that Knapp continues to explore. His interest is fueled by stories of strange happenings, aliens and UFOs, and over the last 20 years Knapp has received numerous personal recollections that add credence to Lazar’s claims. Few of these stories and little of the massive amount of research that Knapp has conducted on the subject have been shared publicly. From his earliest days as a journalist, Knapp has grown to become a highly respected and well-­‐ versed UFO expert. He has researched UFO incidents worldwide and believes that UFOs need to be scientifically investigated. Today, he continues to advocate for serious investigation into UFO sightings. Knapp worked with the National Institute of Discovery Science, a group formed by Las Vegas businessman and aerospace entrepreneur Robert Bigelow, to scientifically study unusual phenomenon with leading scientists and engineers. Knapp won the coveted Edward R. Murrow Award in 2004 and is the recipient of 19 Emmy Awards and two Peabody Awards. Knapp is the co-­‐author of the non-­‐fiction book Hunt for the Skinwalker and hosts the nationally broadcast Coast to Coast AM radio talk show twice a month.

Gamble-Aires Barbershop Chorus and Quartets Offering Annual Spring Show Saturday, April 28

The Las Vegas Gamble-Aires barbershop chorus will present its annual Spring Show – vaudeville-themed “Back In The Old Routine” – at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, when it returns to a favorite Eastside venue after a long absence.

The seasonally popular family event will be at the neighborhood Winchester Community Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. One-price tickets – $10 for adults, military, seniors , students and children – will be available at the door and also may be purchased in advance at the Winchester Center and from Gamble-Aires chorus members.

The show will feature several barbershop quartets from the chorus ranks – including Broadcast, The Four Suits, Older ‘n Dirt and The Silver Knights (2010 District Senior Champions). Among songs the chorus will sing are the show’s title tune, plus Everything Old Is New Again, Ain’t Misbehavin’, I Only Have Eyes For You and That’s An Irish Lullaby.

Barbershop harmony is a musical genre that originated in the early 1900s and the Tin Pan Alley era with vaudeville and minstrel singers. It continued with black-and-white films and Broadway productions. Barbershop today – with its expanding popularity (for some men it’s a devoutly intense musical passion) – is regarded as a vibrant and original ‘USofA’ art form of distinctive a cappella vocal harmony and chord ringing overtones.
