Exploring History & Nature: The Historic Railroad Trail at Lake Mead

The Historic Railroad Trail at Lake Mead National Recreation Area is ideal for outdoors enthusiasts and history buffs. This 3.7-mile hike goes along the old railway line used to construct Hoover Dam in the 1930s. The trail offers views of the mountains and Lake Mead, as well as artifacts such as old railroad ties. Lake Mead Overlook is a great place for photos, with views of the lake and railroad tunnels.

Most visitors will find this an easy-to-moderate hike. Wear sturdy shoes and lots of sunscreen, and bring plenty of water (especially in the summertime).
